Now we are talking about a serious matter.
Did you know that when we take a matter or problem seriously, we are, in fact, doing little or nothing to help solve that problem?
When we take something seriously and are in a serious state of mind, our brain is not, in fact, functioning optimally to resolve the matter in question.
When we are in a really serious emotional state or a serious state of mind, our brain is affected by neurotransmitters like norepinephrine and cortisol, which are a kind of stress chemicals and work as inhibitors. The function of these transmitters is to block the functions of our brain and make our thinking somehow narrower.
In some occasions, even in problem solving when there are very few options, it may be a good thing, but because of these neuro-inhibitors, we are generally not in the best possible state to solve things.
Instead, when you are in a positive state of mind, maybe excited or in some other way having fun, your brain is influenced by different kinds of transmitters, a kind of enhancers of brain functions and performance that we experience e.g. in flow mode. As such, neurotransmitters such as dopamine, endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin and anandamide act as pleasure-producing hormones.
When such enhancer transmitters act in our brain, our thinking is brighter and we are much more capable of perceiving different alternatives and possibilities. Thus, our brain is working faster.
Therefore, when we are serious, we are not contributing to the problem at hand.
So what if you intentionally change your state of mind, for example, by first going through some positive memory or other pleasant thoughts before dealing with the issue at hand?
There are many techniques for changing your state and I present them in many of my blogs and videos. The point, however, is that you consciously go into a positive state, as a result of which your brain is simply functioning better.
In other words, you go away from seriousness towards a positive state of mind.
This is a serious matter, believe me!
Now you can make a choice again: How seriously do you take this article? From now on, do you approach things with seriousness, when your thinking shrinks, or do you approach things from now on in a positive state of mind, when your thinking expands and you are able to perceive more and in a wider spectrum?
My recommendation is that you take this article seriously and change your emotional state to positive whenever you encounter problems 😊.
Not sure if I should take your message seriously… 🙂
