We all live in our own realities of the world. We all create our own perceptions – kind of illusions – of life and the world around us.
How did that come about? How did that happen?
When we are born into this world, we have basically, if I use a computer analogy, the hardware: our brain, our body, and so on.
And then there is a basic programming, an operating system, already in the brain and in the whole neurology. Meaning that we know how to breathe, we know how the heart beats and makes the whole blood circulation and everything like that.
Otherwise, our brain and mind are pretty much open for all new programs to be installed. Therefore, basically everyone in our environment gets to put their own piece of programming into our little brains, into our little minds.
And since we are just little babies, little children, we have no ability to choose which programming we are taking in and to which programming we choose to say: “I don’t like that program, just delete that.”
So a lot of different kinds of coding is being installed in our minds, in our brains, in our neurology, during our infancy.
Our Craving to Be Right
Since we all like being right about whatever we think and however we perceive the world, whenever some information, some programming that conflicts with the programming that is already installed, we tend to neglect it because it makes our life so much easier to continue with the installed, existing programming.
Sure, every now and then we take in small updates here and there, but otherwise we mainly just continue with the programming that we have.
Beliefs
Much of those programs that what we have, are in the form of beliefs.
These beliefs really guide our lives. We have to have them. If we don’t have any beliefs about ourselves, about other people and the surrounding world, it would basically be impossible for us to function in this world.
So we have to have them. And many of those beliefs become so strong that they grow to be our habits in the way we think, act and behave.
Thus, we get our results in life according to our beliefs and actions. And those results that we achieve, they again, because they are based on our beliefs, they strengthen our beliefs and become self-fulfilling prophecies.
How Can We Re-Program Ourselves?
So that’s how it is. That’s how we have formed our view, our perception of life. The thing is, though, that since our beliefs and perceptions act like programs, these beliefs, values and habits and so on, can also be changed, re-programmed.
In my other bog posts, I will explain how you can change some of those programs, and with that, also your perceptions and how you experience life.
In my book Words of Wisdom, Chapter Three is about how we have formed our experience of life and how you can start to influence your perception. And like in all chapters in the book, also this one has several wise quotes, wise words from wise people.
Here, I would like to give you one very wise quote from a very wise person. This one is from Mahatma Gandhi:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts.
Your thoughts become your words.
Your words become your actions.
Your actions become your habits.
Your habits become your values.
Your values become your destiny.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
That is a pretty good description on how the mind works. And especially when Gandhi says that all those things form your destiny.
That’s how it goes. We repeat the same thoughts, same habits, same actions and so on, so that they really do become our destiny in life. But as I said above, we can change any part of that cycle.
So check my other blog posts, subscribe to my newsletter, and you will get some ideas on how you can change your programming, how you can change your perception of life and how you can change your experience of life.
